The role
Lead system safety and assurance for the stations, rails and systems package of the Scarborough Subway Extension, which will extend TTC Line 2 by almost eight kilometres from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road. The officer establishes the safety governance structure, system-safety plan, management system, RAM plan, emergency-response plan and project manuals; oversees safety requirements and assurance cases; supports design and construction certification; coordinates with Metrolinx representatives and independent assessors; and leads a safety team across design and delivery.
Requirements
Engineering degree from an accredited university or degree in a related discipline; 15 years of system-safety experience in passenger rail, ideally metro or subway, including at least 10 years in a lead safety-assurance role; Ontario Professional Engineer licence; in-depth knowledge of the Railway Safety Act, Transport Canada rules and CENELEC standards; experience developing strategic, business and operational plans; advanced risk-management, senior leadership and project-management skills, including budget and schedule controls; working knowledge of Ontario employment and occupational health and safety legislation and collective agreements.
